The visual ideas expressed in this series Mel
calls ”
Melvision,” since he has never seen it done before. Historically, Salvador
Dali in the late paintings came close, the Pop Artist’s mimicked the
dots of it, and graphic art can reproduce it. But, Mel has never seen
anyone else actually paint it.
The depth can be seen using stereovision
techniques, which is looking at the background of the image while slowly
pulling back from the original painting, relaxing the eyes. Or, on a
computer screen, simply use a pair of stereovision glasses.
The subject expressed in this series came to Mel
while listening to Van Morrison.
