Private art critiques for seasoned professionals looking for new inspiration, or anyone just sorting out the mystery of color and form. NYC to SF. Text Mel Smothers, 5302048008.
What is meant by a professional critique? It is not a personal judgement of you as an artist, it only addresses the formal aspects of the work. It speaks only to the work, and not any ideology. It makes no comment on the personal, commercial success of the artist. The artist gets or receives only what they want. They can take or leave any observations at their will.
Wayne Thiebaud, 1997: "(Mel) has an engaging personal manner of working and relating to varying and challenging circumstances. He has a well developed confidence and personal inner resources allowing him to absorb and use critical confrontation for positive results." Ruth Gilmore Langs Artist, 2015 "When I first met Mel and saw his work, I knew he was someone I could trust to let into my visual world, a crucial component to a great critique."
About Mel's current series of paintings: "(Islands)…are, in my humble opinion, terrific. Please have a look at them," Francis Naumann, art historian, author, NYC gallery owner, 2015. "(Islands )…a confluence of Monet and Thiebaud," Susan Eley, columnist, NYC gallery owner, 2015. Recent shows include a solo show at Dacia Gallery, NYC, May 2015 and a summer group show with Francis Naumann Fine Art, NYC, 2015. MORE RESUME HERE
